Illinois Central Gulf Paducah SW14
Cab Wall Kit

The ICG Paducah Shops began the SW14 program in March of 1978. The SW14 rebuilds were constructed from a variety of former IC/ICG switcher models including SW7s, SW9s, NW2s, TRAs, and TRBs. Paducah produced a total of 112 SW14s for the ICG, as well as a few for the East Camden & Highland Railroad.

The ICG SW14s wore the following paint schemes: ICG Orange & White, ICG Solid Orange, ICG Grey & Orange, and of course, the New IC Black.

Among the features of the SW14s were the distinctive angled cab roofs. (All but the first 3 received this style cab.)

This kit is designed to be used with Cannon & Company cab components to create the most accurate SW14 model possible in HO Scale. The cab walls feature flush-fitting laser cut windows, and cut-outs ready to accept Cannon doors and other detail parts. This is a "kitbashing helpers special." It is not meant to be a ready-to-go finished product. But if you are trying to build an ICG SW14, I have a feeling you enjoy kitbashing.

The SW14 cab wall kit consists of 2 laser-cut cab walls (front & back), laser-cut flush windows, and an instruction summary sheet.

This cab kit is not meant to replace good old-fashioned patience, sanding, cutting and gluing skills.Along with this cab wall kit, you will need:

(1) Cannon & Company #1502 "35 Line" cab kit.
(1) Cannon & Company #1504 "Late" Switcher cab kit.
Some HO Scale 2x4 Styrene strip (Evergreen #8204)
Some scrap .010" and .020" styrene
Appropriate detail parts for the era/model # you choose.

The cab wall kit is being offered in two verions:

Kit # SW14-01 With Front Cab Windows (ICG 1403-1440, except 1434)
Kit # SW14-02 Without Front Cab Windows (ICG 1434?, 1441-1511)

An instruction sheet is included, giving a summary of the assembly process.

There are tons of ICG SW14 photos are on the web. Studying the prototype photos is essential to building an accurate model. Two good places to start for research are the George Elwood Fallen Flags Website and Michael Seidelman's icgphotos.com .
